The ABB IRB 4400 is a compact robot that performs extremely fast for medium to heavy handling. It is suitable for a variety of manufacturing applications, including: cutting, deburring, die spraying, gluing, sealing, grinding, polishing, machine tending, material handling, packing, and palletizing. The fast axis movements allow the IRB 4400 to perform high speed palletizing and material handling. In most cases it can handle welding and plasma cutting guns that incorporate heavy tool changers or gripping mechanisms. Its rigid design and excellent repeatability produce consistently high quality welding and cutting on close tolerance products. The TrueMove function ensures a smooth, fast movement and is complimented by the rigid and well-balanced design.

Applications that require speed and flexibility are easily performed by the ABB IRB 4400. The protected versions allow use in foundry and spraying applications. The foundry plus versions are IP 67 protected and can be washed with high pressure steam, which make them ideal for use in harsh environments.

The ABB IRB 4450S is the shelf robot version in the IRB 4400 robot family. It has the same good accuracy and cycle time performance as other IRB 4400, but is able to work downwards for mounting on top of e.g. die casting or injection molding machines.
