FANUC Robotics' LR Mate 200iC/5H Robot and Innovative Technology
FANUC Robotics released its LR Mate 200iC/5H in 2007. This industrial robot was designed to replace or "eliminate" SCARA-type robots used in small part assembly applications. FANUC Robotics calls the LR Mate 200iC/5H robot the "SCARA Eliminator" because of its superior functionality and additional benefits over SCARA-type robots.
Features and Benefits of FANUC Robotics’ LR Mate 200iC/5H Robot
The LR Mate 200iC/5H is a robot used by manufacturers for small part assembly applications. However, the robot has been found to be useful in medical applications, such as pharmaceuticals and medical devices. Its ability to perform well in these application have been demonstrated through its advanced handling of sorting tasks.
Because the robot is small, tabletop size, it is well-suited for applications such as machine tending, material handling, assembly, picking and packing, part washing, material removal, and dispensing.
Due to its size, potential buyers might think that the work envelope is not big enough to fulfill their companies’ needs. The FANUC LR Mate 200iC/5H literally bends over backwards to prove that it can handle many jobs. This robot can flip 340 degrees, effectively expanding its work envelope. It is also designed with a slim arm, which allows it to work in tight spaces. The LR Mate 200iC/5H can be mounted on the floor, tabletop, inside machines, at angles, and inverted to maximize facility space.
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of FANUC’s LR Mate 200iC/5H robot is its new technology, the FANUC iRVision system and the FANUC FS-60 force sensor. The iRVision system employs a camera, cable, and a 2D robot guidance tool to locate the correct parts, put them in the correct order, eliminate errors, and increase system uptime. This system replaces special sensors and custom fixtures that normally perform these sorting tasks. The FS-60 force sensor makes use of six degrees of freedom and 3D assembly to assist in complex and precise assembly operations.
FANUC’s LR Mate 200iC/5H robot provides another example of how new technologies and innovations in industrial automation help achieve efficiency and increase production in manufacturing.
